Curriculum Vitae

Education

2012 (exp) - Ph.D., Princeton University.

2006 - BA (hons.) first class, Australian National University.
I wrote my honours thesis on 'Modal Rationalism' under the supervision of Prof. David Chalmers. One of the markers wrote that it was "an outstanding piece of work, easily the best thesis I've read in a long time."

2005 - Bachelor of Arts, University of Canterbury.

GRE scores: 800 verbal, 800 quantitative, 4.5 analytical writing.

Awards and Honours

I was placed '1st in subject' for the NZEST examination in biology (2002). Overall, I gained a 'Scholarship' award across my five subjects, and was placed 26th in New Zealand.

Teaching and Research areas

AOS: moral philosophy (metaethics and normative ethics)

AOC: metaphysics, epistemology, introductory logic, political philosophy, applied ethics

Teaching Experience

Fall 2008 - PHI 203: Introduction to Metaphysics and Epistemology - led three weekly discussion sections and graded papers for Prof. Michael Fara.

Spring 2007 - PHIL 138 - Truth and Reason - led a weekly tutorial section for this intro logic course at the University of Canterbury.

I'm also interested in the 'P4C' movement to teach philosophy in schools. In the first semester of 2005, I volunteered for a mentoring program – organized through the Univeristy of Canterbury Golden Key Honour Society – which paired me up with a gifted primary school student with an interest in philosophy. We met for an hour a week to discuss philosophy and develop his interests in the field.

Professional Service

I am also involved in the online philosophical community, founding:
(i) the Philosophers' Carnival for philosophical weblogs, and
(ii) the Facebook group for Open Access Philosophy (350+ members strong).

I am currently developing (with Corey Maley) an informal draft-sharing and peer review system for academic philosophers and graduate students.
