• Are children basically adults-in-the-making or inhabitants of a distinct children's world?
• Does childhood pass through universal stages of development or does it vary significantly by situation and category?
• Do children’s practices, character, and experience depend primarily on relations to their family, relations to adults in general, or relations to their peers?
