What has happened So far?

The following is a timeline of important events in the development of a national geologic depository at Yucca Mountain.

1982 Nuclear Waste Policy Act (Full Text)
This Act establishes geologic disposal as the United State's long term strategy for the removal of nuclear wastes. It also orders the Department of Energy (DOE) to determine potential sites for a national depository.

1983
The DOE selects nine potential sites for the nation's first geologic depository
