Even though DDT use was banned in the U.S. as of January 1, 1973, production continued until 1985 for export. Currently DDT is no longer manufactured in the U.S, but it is manufactured by companies in Mexico and China. The mechanism of DDT production is condensation of chloral hydrate and chlorobenzene in concentrated sulfuric acid.
