Many man-made pesticides are considered to be POPs
What are Pesticides?
It has been estimated that as much as 30 percent of crops grown around the world are lost to insect consumption. In addition, insects are often vectors for transmission of diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, and sleeping sickness [1]. Thus, it often becomes necessary to control the number of insects around areas of human habitation with pesticides. The term pesticide is an umbrella term for natural and man-made insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides. In this section, we will focus on the man-made insecticide, DDT.
