Politics, Violence and the Republican Imagination:
Lucan and his Legacy

Princeton University

October 3-5, 2003

Contemporary interest in Lucan continues to be very active amongst Classicists, and students of later literatures are also alive to the appeal exercised by this iconoclastic and transgressive poet of civil war in a range of post-Classical authors and debates. We propose to bring both parties together in an interdisciplinary conference that will provide a venue for exploring his impact under such diverse rubrics as republicanism, revolution, philosophy, civil war, religion, necromancy, literary tradition and translation.
