Sight Translation: Explosion in North Korea サイトラ: 北朝鮮の大爆発
I do sight translation (interpreting on the spot without any preparation in advance), consecutive interpretation (interpretation after each utterance), or simultaneous interpretation of the news every morning to keep up with current events and warm-up for work. Asahi News Network (ANN) provides beautiful video on their website along with scripts. Unfortunately, they don't archive their pages, so I've put the script of a news story from today below. Use the glossary provided to do sight translation.
北の大爆発 核爆発や核実験を否定 ロイター通信
今月9日、北朝鮮の北部で大規模な爆発がありました。被害状況や爆発の原因など、詳しいことは分かっていません。韓国の聯合ニュースによると、爆発があったのは中国との国境に近い北朝鮮の両江道（リャンガンドウ）です。現場では、直径3.5キロから4キロのきのこ雲が発生したということです。韓国統一省・鄭東泳（チョン・ドンヨン）長官：「（爆発が核によるものという）一部の外国メディアの報道内容とは無関係だと考えている」爆発は、今年4月におよそ160人が死亡した竜川（リョンチョン）での列車爆発事故より大きいものとみられています。
川口外務大臣：「（日本政府としては）今、事実を確認中で、こうだと申し上げることは何もない」爆発が起きた9日は、北朝鮮の建国記念日でした。また、爆発現場の近くには北朝鮮の軍事施設が集中し、偵察衛星による核実験に必要な原料の運搬活動も確認されています。また、ロイター通信によると、アメリカ国務省当局者は「きのこ雲や核実験ではないと確信している」と述べ、今回の爆発が、核爆発や核実験の可能性を否定したということです。
