New scholars join Society Fellows
Princeton NJ -- Four new postdoctoral scholars have been
named to the Princeton Society of Fellows for next year.
They will join five fellows from the inaugural year of
the program who will be continuing their work at Princeton
in 2001-02.
The new fellows, along with their fields of study and the
institutions from which they received their Ph.D., are:
Jonathan Gilmore, philosophy, Columbia University;
Paul Heck, Islamic studies, the University of
Chicago; Heather O'Donnell, English, Yale University;
and Jonathan Tan, astrophysics, the University of
California-Berkeley.
The program, under the directorship of Alexander Nehamas,
the Edmund Carpenter II Class of 1943 Professor in the
Humanities, is intended to attract some of the best recent
Ph.D. recipients in the human-ities, social sciences and
natural sciences to the campus each year. It is made
possible through the generosity of Trustee Lloyd Cotsen.
Based in the restored Joseph Henry House, the Cotsen
Fellows teach half-time in their academic department or the
Humanities Council and pursue their own research.
The four were chosen from among 550 applicants in a
selection process coordinated by Mary Harper, associate
director of the society. Like the first group, they will be
appointed to three-year terms.
