  Seventy-two
students have received the President's Award for Academic
Achievement. At the award dinner in Prospect House on
October 21, each winner received a boxed set of The Iliad
and The Odyssey, translated by Marks Professor of
Comparative Literature Robert Fagles, as shown by Patrick
Rose '01 of Rockefeller College (r).
Pictured are I-shin Chow '00 (l); Butler College master
Edward Champlin, Cotsen Professor of Humanities; and Yuliy
Sannikov, Pamela Carter, Ian Hagemann, Maryam Mokhtarzadeh,
Benjamin Sommers, Alexandra Rothstein, Michael Kesden and
Michael Sollazzo, all juniors.
 New
this year, the President's Award recognizes outstanding work
done by first and second year students. "It symbolizes the
high value we attach to serious and successful engagement in
the intellectual pursuits that constitute the core of
undergraduate education at Princeton," said President
Shapiro, who attended the award dinner, along with Dean of
the College Nancy Malkiel, Dean of the Faculty Joseph
Taylor, and the masters and directors of studies of the
residential colleges.
