International Festival - celebration of all cultures

We think it is good to learn on the experience of others :). Below you can find some useful tips: a list of possible fundraising sources and procedures, as well as a list of people that you might need to get in touch with.
In order to make your life easier you can also download the following documents from this website:

  • a copy of IF 2004 budget (this gives you a rough estimate since you might organize the festival in a different way. Beware - your budget should be ready in November because it has to be included with the fundraising letters)
  • a generic fundraising letter (this is how we approached the departments, if you would like to see the particular letters aimed at specific programs - please contact one of the IF '04 Co-Chairs and you will receive a complete file ? )
  • a list of dishes and restaurants (this information can be used by the food-person to find out which international dishes were served in 2004 and where they came from as well as what kind of equipment was needed <ie. coolers, heating devices>)
  • a floor plan of the food court (this is how Caroline Lau, our food master, organized the area, it worked amazingly well!)

Good luck!

Fundraising hints:

  1. Departments and all the programs (write personal letters describing the festival and asking for financial help, when there is no answer send a second letter or somebody in person)
  2. Dean of Graduate College
  3. Bildner Fund (there is an application available online)
  4. Office of Religious Life (also an application)
  5. PIIRS (Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies) www.princeton.edu/~piirs
  6. CJL
  7. WPRB 103.3 (they did our radio advertisements for free ? )
  8. International Center (Friends of International Center and Linsie & Hoshien Tchen Fund) - talk to Paula Chow (head of the International Center)
  9. Graduate Students Government (www.princeton.edu/~gsg) - there should be a graduate student member of the Consortium board who can help you with contacting their government
  10. Projects Board (money comes from WWS, ODUS and Venture Fund) - check their website www.princeton.edu/~pboard , approach them when you have tried all the other sources, they want to see that you were really trying hard to get the money
