DEED. For gift made by Iohannis, commander of Ravenna and his wife Stefania to Iohannia, abbess of the monastary of San Giovanni Battista (called ad Navicula).
Scheide MS 98: The Scheide Library. Belonged to Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522-1605). Bequeathed to the state of Bologna and deposited in the State Archive of Bologna. 1742 included in the Gabinetto di Antichità of the Istituto delle Scienze. 1796 stolen from the Institute. Appeared again shortly before 1937. In 1937 came to Maggs Bros. Ltd (London). 1939 sold to J. S. Scheide for the Scheide Library.

OLD TESTAMENT. Psalter. Psalms 26-27; 38-41. Bifolium and a single leaf from a codex. The bifolium is also a palimpsest, the primary text being perpendicular to the secondary text (Psalms). The single leaf, which precedes the bifolium has page numbers in the upper right/left hand corner. The text is divided into sections: each section is marked with a psalm number, a traditional heading in red ink and a decorative border of brown and red ink. The initial letter of each section is enlarged and decorated with red ink. Bifolium: 2a Psalm 38: 8-13; 2a-2b, 3a Psalm 39; 3a-3b Psalm 40; 3b Psalm 41:1. Leaf: 1a Psalm 26: 7-14; 1a-1b Psalm 27. When originally written Psalms 39, 40, 27 were complete; presently there are lacunae.

CHRISTIAN TEXT. Unidentified. Two fragments of a codex in one of the dialects of Upper Egypt, perhaps Akhmimic or Middle Egyptian. Palimpsest. The primary text is written in a rounded upright uncial hand, contains nomina sacra and seems to be Coptic. Measurements for margins are those of the secondary text, although the left and right margins may have been the same for each text. Both fragments have horizontal lines separating sections of Coptic text. See also Garrett Deposit NS 23 for fragments which may belong to this text.

HYMNODY. Fragments of a Coptic Hermeniae in Sahidic. Parts of 2 folios and two small fragments. Folio 1 is similar in style and contents to Morgan Tome XIII. Text should be compared with texts of hymns in praise of Anthony and Shenoute as found in Morgan Codex. Folio 2 from the same Hermeniae. Hymn in praise of the Virgin Mary. Bottom line of one page mentions an Alphabetas-hymn of St Gabriel. This hymn is not found in the Morgan MS (where, however, an Alphabetas hymn in honour of St Michael is given). c.f Leiden MS Insinger no. 41 for similar examples.
