Princeton GCCS Log July 29, 2006 1700 GMT GCT file: asap_0806_v1 Gliders under control: we07, we09, we10 Coordination plan: Each glider is assigned to one of the three original tracks heading counter-clockwise. All three gliders to be synchronized. Summary: Since we took control of the gliders yesterday around 1700 GMT, the three gliders have been making progress to get on their tracks and get coordinated. Glider we10 is making very fast headway northward along the inner boundary of the ASAP glider sampling domain with effective speeds in excess of 50 cm/s. Gliders we07 and we09 got caught in strong southward flow off the southern corner of the sampling domain which limited their northward progress to 17-20 cm/s. Glider we07 has reached the southern edge of the sampling domain and is about to turn the in-shore corner north. Glider we09 is crossing through the middle of its assigned track in an effort to become synchronized with the other two gliders. Outlook: we08 and we12 anticipated to join the coordinated fleet sometime in the next 24 hours. We are keeping an eye on the strong northward flow in the vicinity of the northwestern corner of the sampling domain which may significantly impede we10 and we09 when they turn south around the offshore corner of their tracks.
