Princeton GCCS Log August 18, 2006 1300 GMT GCT file: asap_0806_v12 Gliders under control: we05, we07, we08, we09, we10 Coordination plan: (unchanged) Gliders we07 and we09 are assigned to travel clockwise around the middle/offshore (we07) and middle/inshore (we09) tracks. Gliders we05 and we08 are assigned to travel clockwise around the southern/offshore (we05) and southern/inshore (we08) tracks. In addition, gliders we05, we07, we08, and we09 will seek to be synchronized on their respective tracks. Glider we10 will travel clockwise on the northern track. Coordination summary: The synchronization between gliders pairs we05/we08 and we07/we09 is fair. Strong equatorward flow in the southern tracks impeded the progress of we05 and we08 as they rounded the corner heading north along the offshore edge of their tracks. In order to become synchronized with we08, glider we05 is taking a much smaller circuit of its assigned track. Similarly, in order to become synchronized with the pair of gliders on the southern tracks, the gliders on the middle tracks are taking slightly larger circuits of their tracks. Glider we10 is heading inshore along the northern edge of the northern track. Glider OA Flow summary: patches of strong onshore and equatorward flow in the south and mild poleward flow in the norther of the sampling domain.
