Following the Drishti screening of the documentary "The Betrayal of Bhopal," many people in the audience got together to do their bit in helping the victims of Bhopal. A campus effort called "Princeton for Bhopal" is being organized, and this is also being taken up by the newly formed AID-Princeton chapter. While Drishti is officially not associated with these efforts, as a courtesy to those involved, we shall announce updates on this group's efforts here.

In 1984, a deadly gas leak in a Union Carbide factory in Bhopal caused one of the worst industrial disasters of modern times. 8,000 people died immediately; thousands more died subsequently, and others continue to suffer. The accident has had a devastating environmental impact, compounded by continuing negligence.
The past 19 years have seen a unique global movement for justice in Bhopal. H. Rajan Sharma, an attorney representing the Bhopal gas tragedy survivors in U.S. Federal Court, will talk about the movement and present a documentary entitled "The Betrayal of Bhopal."
According to Rajan Sharma, "at least 20,000 persons have died from exposure-related causes since the disaster. 10 to 15 people continue to die each month. There is another environmental disaster in terms of contamination of drinking water supply which is ongoing."
