Program Control

When the program is executed the user is prompted as follows:

ENTER NAME OF DYNA3D RESULT FILES (d3plot) >ex7plt

The user should enter the root name (with the path if necessary) of the DYNA3D state data result files, the program will then search for all the result files with this root name and scan them. The LLNL DYNA3D default file name (d3plot) is set as the default name and can be chosen by a RETURN key stroke. The users of the OASYS version should give the state file with the extension .ptf or .rlf.

The state number and time for each state are then displayed to enable the user to select which states are to be processed.

ENTER STATES TO BE PROCESSED (ALL/En/LIST) (ALL)>

The user can choose to process every 'n' states by typing letter 'E' followed by 'n' an integer to specify the increment. Alternatively a list of state numbers can be typed on one line separated by spaces or all the states can be selected by pressing the RETURN key.

DATA MAY BE ENTERED DIRECTLY INTO AN EXISTING
DATABASE OR OUTPUT TO A TEXT FILE.
MAKE YOUR CHOICE : 1 ENTRY TO DATABASE
: 2 OUTPUT TO CHARACTER FILE
                  : 3 BOTH 1 AND 2

 ENTER 1,2,OR 3 (11,12,13 FOR VERBOSE) (1)>

This option controls the destination for the translated data. Where options 1 or 3 have been chosen a FEMVIEW database will be opened.

CREATE NEW MODEL OR APPEND RESULTS TO OLD MODEL? (C/A) (C) >

The interface can translate all model data and create a new FEMVIEW model or translate only the results data and append this information to an existing FEMVIEW model. It is not possible to create a model that already exists or to append data to a model that does not already exist in the FEMVIEW database. The default is to create.

ENTER MODEL NAME (MAX 6 CHARACTERS) (ex7plt) >

The user should enter the name of an old or new FEMVIEW model or accept the default job name. The default job name is either the root name of the LLNL DYNA3D files or if 'd3plot' is the root name and the text 'FEMGEN' is found in the 'd3plot' file the program will attempt to determine the FEMGEN model name. For OASYS version files, the default model name will either be the FEMGEN name or the DYNA3D file root name. This name is used when running the main program to access the data from a particular analysis.

 ENTER MODEL DESCRIPTION (DY1.000 ) >

A model description may be associated with each new model. The user should enter a 20 character or less description or use the RETURN key to accept the default.

 ENTER LOADCASE PREFIX (L) >

ENTER LOADCASE INCREMENT NUMBER OFFSET (0) >

The default loadcase name is 'L1' and it is selected by two RETURN key strokes. The prefix 'L' or/and the increment number for the loadcase name can be changed here. This is most commonly used when appending data to an existing model.

The interface prompts the user with questions for selecting which results are to be processed. The nodal results that can be selected are the displacement, velocity and acceleration values. If element results are selected, the types of results (stresses, strains, reaction forces and moments) available for selection depend on the data contained in the DYNA3D result files. All results are selected as default and the user should type 'n' for those that are not required.

 PROCESS DISPLACEMENT VALUES? (Y/N) (Y) >

 PROCESS VELOCITY VALUES? (Y/N) (Y) >

 PROCESS ACCELERATION VALUES? (Y/N) (Y) >n

 PROCESS ELEMENT RESULTS? (Y/N) (Y) >

 PROCESS STRESS VALUES? (Y/N) (Y) >

 PROCESS STRAIN VALUES? (Y/N) (Y) >

PROCESS REACTION FORCES AND MOMENTS? (Y/N) (Y) >

The program will start by translating the model topology after which the nodal and element solution will be translated for each state selected for processing. An indication of the program progress is given.

The program will then proceed to process the model and terminate with the following message:

 *** CONVERSION FINISHED ***

When running the program in 'terse' mode (the default) it is advisable to briefly inspect the 'POSTDY.MES' file for any errors or warnings which may have occurred during translation
