RESULTS CALCULATE

                    

`RESULTS CALCULATE' is the command for performing calculations on the results that are stored in the database. Loadcases can be factored and combined to form new loadcases and existing loadcases or attributes can be scanned to find extreme results. Also, certain pre-defined calculations can be performed. The full range of `RESULTS CALCULATE' commands are shown below.

2.15.1.1 AVERAGE - perform nodal averaging

2.15.1.2 AV-DIFF - calculate the maximum difference between the average and the element values

2.15.1.3 BEAMST - spawns as a sub-process the WS Atkins program Beam Stress

2.15.1.4 COMBINE - loadcases factored and added together

2.15.1.5 DIFFEREN - differentiate the `y' values of a graph

2.15.1.6 EXPRESSN - expressions are evaluated

2.15.1.7 EXTRAPOL - extrapolate gaussian or invariant values to nodes

2.15.1.8 INTEGRAT - integrate over a region

2.15.1.9 PERDIFF - calculate a percentage difference between the average and the element values

2.15.1.10 PRESSURE - pressures are calculated

2.15.1.11 P-ESTRAI - principal strains are calculated (needs engineering strains)

2.15.1.12 P-STRESS - principal stresses are calculated

2.15.1.13 P-SHEAR - principal shears are calculated

2.15.1.14 P-YIELD - plastic yield is calculated

2.15.1.15 SAFETY - factor of safety is calculated

2.15.1.16 SCAN LOADCASE - loadcases scanned for extreme values

2.15.1.17 SCAN SURFACES - surfaces scanned for extreme values

2.15.1.18 VONMISES - Von Mises stresses are calculated

Further information on each of these commands is given in the following sections. The equations used in the calculations are given in Appendix H of the User Manual Appendices.

Notes:

The full range of commands for the presentation of results can be used with calculated values.

Only results calculated using RESULTS CALCULATE AVERAGE, RESULTS CALCULATE COMBINE, RESULTS CALCULATE AV-DIFF, RESULTS CALCULATE EXPRESSN, RESULTS CALCULATE EXTRAPOL, RESULTS CALCULATE PERDIFF or RESULTS CALCULATE SCAN are saved in the database. For all the other RESULTS CALCULATE commands the requested results data is calculated `on the fly' and not saved in the database.

The calculated loadcase/results will become the current loadcase/results.

The calculations PRESSURE, P-ESTRAI, P-STRESS, P-SHEAR, P-YIELD, SAFETY and VONMISES will remain active if a different loadcase is selected but will be switched off if a different results attribute or component is selected via the RESULTS NODAL/ ELEMENT/ GAUSSIAN/ INVARIANT command.
