HomeUsing modern technology to remotely monitor the environment, Cornell Professor Dr. David Winkler, combined with tech guru Robert Johnson, retired engineer and environmental activist Jim Moore, and summer intern Dennis Zollo, set off to engineer a NestBox Sensor project to monitor, collect data, and study the large group of tree swallows who return to nest at the Cornell Ponds year after year. The project hopes to embed triggered IP cameras, temperature sensors, and RFID readers in a series of sensing nodes at the Unit 1 nesting site on Warren Road in Lansing, NY. Visit the system map to see the current and proposed layout of the Sensing Sytem. Peruse the grant proposal, network layout, user manuals, and other information in the Documents section. View Preliminary data collection procedures, and download early software verisons in the Process section. This website will serve as both an information center for the public, and a home for information about the project for the parties involved.
