Several of a set of 15 cuneiform tablets coming from Bablyonia, dating ca. 2100 to 1800 BC. These fifteen are school tablets. On each one side has a text in well-formed script supplied by the teacher. On the other side, the student was to copy the text. Two of the fifteen have student inscriptions; others show the copying exercise to have been rubbed out while the clay was still soft. Topics covered by the tablets range from such everyday things as barley, reeds, birds, pottery, and beer to the wisdom of a literary proverb (tablet 14).
