L’ATELIER IN PARIS PROGRAM Advanced Atelier students travel to Paris, France, over the university’s Intersession period. This program is sponsored and made possible by the Department of French and Italian, the Center for French Studies and Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies. This program is meant to offer Atelier students the unique opportunity to enrich their discovery and understanding of French theater. Students attend plays at the Paris National theaters, where they meet actors and directors. Students also attend acting and directing classes at the CNSAD, the Paris National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. L’Atelier in Paris Program started during the 2003-2004 academic year. Recently, during the third Atelier in Paris program of January 2006, students were offered a masterclass with French actor Guillaume Gallienne (Comédie-Française) inside Paris’ most prestigious public theater: the Comédie-Française.
Last January, advanced L’Atelier students attended a record number of five plays in Paris national theaters, among which everyone’s favorite: Comédie-Française play “Cyrano de Bergerac.” Students also saw “Le Roi Lear” at the Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe, and “Le Malade Imaginaire” in the long-run mise en scène of LaComédie-Française by Claude Stratz. Students later attended a contemporary play at the Champs-Elysées Théâtre du Rond-Point, and were fortunate to be invited to the dress rehearsal of Tchekhov’s “Sur la Grand-Route” at Le Studio-Théâtre of La Comédie-Française directed by Guillaume Gallienne. For all involved, the fourth L’Atelier in Paris Program was an unforgettable experience. |
