CHILE
RESEARCH
The Institute of Political Science was founded by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 1969 with the goal of developing scientific analyses of the structures, processes and contents of politics through research, teaching and extension activities. In accordance with the growing autonomy of the discipline and acknowledging the importance of rigorous scientific studies of political processes and international relations, the Institute became the first academic unit dedicated exclusively to the study of political science in Chile.
In its 40 years of existence, the Institute of Political Science has promoted the growth of the discipline in its various sub-areas: Comparative Politics, International Relations, Security and Defense Studies, Regional and Chilean Politics, and Political Theory. The Institute edits its own journal (RCP) and works in conjunction with prestigious universities around the world generating collaborative research projects and joint programs of study. The Institute has been critical in contributing to the consolidation of the discipline in Chile and strengthening its insertion in the international arena.
