Globalization
Everything related to Globalization:
The WTO, IMF, and World
Bank: The unholy trinity
Since 1982, the IMF and the World Bank have
been the targets of increasing public protest over their conduct in the
developing world. There's still some confusion, though, over these institutions:
What do they do, exactly? When and why were they founded? What's their
relationship to the United States and the other major economic powers?
To answer some of these questions, we've
prepared this beginner's guide to the IMF and the Bank. This was written
as a primer for the 16 April 2000 protests in Washington, DC, and it outlines
the history of the global economy (and especially developing-country debt)
since 1945, as well as some of the big questions about the problems and
future direction of the IMF and World Bank.
