Finishing (12') for chamber orchestra was written in 2002. The title refers to the practice of adding a seductive veneer to the cover of books. In this piece a traditional chamber orchestra is augmented with the sound of mark-trees, dog-whistles and small tape recorders. These instruments work together to produce a soft ambient haze that overlays a series of looping trumpet calls.
