Match-Up was written for So Percussion in the fall of 2004. Most of the musical gestures in this piece require the players to work in pairs creating a playful and intimate atmosphere (i.e. hocketing melodies, four-hand piano playing, patty-cake routines). All the players’ movements onstage are carefully choreographed in the score. The piece is written for 2 triangles, piano, vibraphone, marimba, 5 heavy-duty matches, 4 candles, 4 micro-cassette players, 4 train whistles, 2 anvils, and 2 electronic bows.
