The Program in Hellenic Studies offers a limited number of Stanley J. Seeger Fellowships for Princeton graduate students whose work would benefit from summer travel for study and/or research in Greece, Cyprus, or other Mediterranean countries relevant to the study of Classical, Byzantine, or Modern Greece. Graduate students from all Princeton departments are welcome to apply.

Graduate students applying for support may choose from among a wide range of opportunities: summer study programs in Greece, archaeological work, independent research and travel (pre-dissertation), modern Greek language courses, dissertation research, summer employment, etc. The Program in Hellenic Studies has prepared a listing entitled Study in Greece containing contact information for selected programs and institutions. Interested students may view the guide online or come to the Program office to browse through our summer program files, some of which include reports by former participants in summer study programs.

Before applying to the Program in Hellenic Studies for fellowship support, students are required to explore other sources of support, including departmental funds.  Applicant’s for Hellenic Studies support are required to submit the Graduate School’s common application form.

Applicants should refer to Financing Study in the Mediterranean. Every effort is made to make our funds go as far as possible. Hence, support is limited to the least expensive airfare, tuition costs (if applicable), and a modest contribution towards the cost of living and traveling abroad. The Committee does not normally make more than two awards to the same individual within any four-year period..
