Visiting Stewart Fellows in Religion for 2009-2012

The Department of Religion, the Humanities Council, and the Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University invite applications for two Visiting Stewart Fellows in Religion for 2009-2012.  These are three-year, post-doctoral appointments.  The fellows will teach two courses during the academic year, serve as advisors of undergraduate independent work, and participate in one of the interdisciplinary workshops of the Center for the Study of Religion.  The salary for 2009-10 will be approximately $69,500.  Stewart Fellows will be provided with an office, a personal computer, a research account of $5000 a year, and access to university benefits and other resources.  Fellows are expected to reside in or near Princeton during the academic year in order that they may participate fully in the intellectual life of the university.

The search committee is especially interested in applications from scholars in those fields that complement and enhance Princeton’s current offerings in the study of religion.  The committee is placing a priority on the following areas:  1) early medieval through early modern religious history, with a particular emphasis in one or more of these subjects: a) the relations of Latin West and Greek East; b) medieval religious thought; or c) the age of  Reformation; and 2) Latino religions and cultures, with a particular emphasis on borderlands and the multiple encounters between Christianity and indigenous traditions as explored through history, ethnography, or the arts.  The committee will also consider applications outside these fields, but the focus of the search will be in these two broad domains.   For information about applying to Princeton and how to self-identify, please visit http://web.princeton.edu/sites/dof/ApplicantsInfo.htm.  Princeton is an EO/AA employer.

Applications should include a cover letter, a c.v., three to five letters of recommendation, and a relevant writing sample.  Materials should be sent to Ms. Mary Kay Bodnar, Department of Religion, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ 08544.  Review of applications will begin November 15, 2008.
