In Sanskrit, the term Satsangam literally means “in the company of truth.” It has come to describe a gathering of people in search of Truth.

Originaly the Hindu Students Council, the group was revitalized in the fall of 2003, renamed the Princeton Hindu Satsangam, and has been a growing organization since then. These efforts originated with two students, Ritu Kamal '07 and Manish Abbi '08, who took the initiative and created a group dedicated to Hinduism on campus. In its first year, the group held speaker events, and co-sponsored various Indian activities. Over time, the group branched out to have bi-weekly meetings in the Interfaith Prayer Room of Murray-Dodge Hall, where many pujas and festivals have been organized. PHS also organized a prayer service during the interfaith Coming Together conference hosted by Princeton University's Religious Life Council in 2005, which was attended by dozens of students from other campuses and of various faiths. Currently, we meet for bhajan satsangs every Saturday at 2 pm in the Interfaith Prayer Room. In the future, the Hindu Satsangam aims to continue fulfilling its purpose - that of providing a spiritual fellowship for Hindus and other seekers and interested students at Princeton.
