In Sanskrit, the term Satsangam literally means “in the company of truth.” It has come to describe a gathering of people in search of Truth.

Introducing the Princeton Hindu Alumni Network
To better serve the needs of Princeton's community of Hindu alumni around the world, we are delighted to announce the formal launch of the Princeton Hindu Alumni Network (PHAN). This network is a joint initiative of the Princeton Hindu Satsangam student group and Princeton's Hindu Life program within the university's Office of Religious Life.

We hope that this network will serve as a way for Hindu alumni to maintain a link with Princeton University, the current Hindu community at Princeton, and with each other. We also hope that this might allow us to hear more from you about your experiences on campus and your ideas for the future of Hinduism here.

PHAN is the newest phase in the ongoing development of Princeton's Hindu life. Since 2004, when Ritu Kamal '07 and Manish Abbi '08 co-founded it, the Princeton Hindu Satsangam has served as a student-run organization dedicated to understanding and celebrating Hinduism. Last year, the Office of Religious Life inaugurated a Hindu Life program, appointing a Coordinator to serve the needs of Princeton's Hindu community. Hinduism Week, now in its third year, is one of a number of ways that this program aims to offer relevant and diverse programs to highlight Hinduism in the 21st century. And this past year, the Hindu community marked a historic first: Diwali was officially recognized and celebrated in the University Chapel, for the first time in Princeton history.

In fact, Princeton is so committed to facilitating Hindu awareness on campus that -- despite the economic hardships facing us all -- the university took the bold step of installing the Hindu Life program as a permanent part of the Office of Religious Life, making it one of the only such programs in the world to receive this official status.

Hindu life at Princeton is flourishing, and we want our alumni to be an active part of this exciting time. We'd like to invite your feedback, ideas, and participation. For starters, you can help us update our database by sending us your updated contact information to Princeton Hindu Satsangam.
