Writing a book to be entitled Science and Polity in France from the Revolution through the Restoration, 1789-1830. The volume will complete the treatment of interactions of science and politics in the period when France was the locus of modernization. Main topics are the transition from the Enlightenment to positivism, the origin of the metric system, science in modern education, science and warfare, creation of the modern institutional structure, natural science and social sciences, science and industrial development, the formation of the modern disciplines of mathematical physics, physical chemistry, and rigorous biology.
