WWS 315 Bioethics and Public Policy
Syllabus

This course focuses on the relationship between selected issues in bioethics and their implications for public policy. Issues include the ethical responsibilities of doctor and patient to each other; the ethics of research with human subjects; the ethics of death and dying; the ethics of reproduction; eugenics; access to health care; the role of bioethics committees; and animal experimentation. Considers the history of cultural attitudes toward these matters, the contemporary policies designed to deal with them, and the landmark court cases that have focused on bioethics. One 3-hour seminar.
