The Anvils shown opposite
can be used with the Rockwell hardness tester to hold different samples
for testing. The plane anvil is the standard table and is able
to hold most flat samples. The V-groove anvils are for cylindrical samples.
The V size should be chosen so that the cylinder cannot roll during
the loading process. The spot anvil is for testing small samples or
thin sections. Special anvils may be fabricated to test samples of complicated
shape. Curved samples should be tested with the concave surface
towards the indenter. It is important that samples not be able to slip
from under the indenter when the major load is applied. |
