Table Jack Screw

The table holding the sample to be tested is raised into position by turning the jack screw. This process is done in two stages with the indenter in the raised position (lever in the forward position). In the first stage, the table is raised so that the sample just contacts the indenter. In the second stage, the table is further raised until the ring on the indenter shaft below the indicator gauge just disappears into the housing. In this condition the dial is rotated so that the zero corresponds to the pointer position and the sample is then ready for testing.
