Minor Load

The minor load (10 Kg) pushes the indenter into the sample. The
diagram shows the deformation produced by this loading when used
with the diamond indenter. The dial is set to zero once the minor load is applied, and the change in indentation depth produced by applying the major load and returning to the minor load once deformation has stopped is used as a measure of the material's hardness.
