Submit abstracts to iiss2008@princeton.edu

Princeton boasts strengths in a variety of substantive and methodological areas--from demography to ethnography, from sociology of culture to economic sociology, and from immigration to religion. The 2008 conference theme, Bridging Boundaries, reflects this diversity and highlights our commitment to fostering interaction between young scholars from different institutions and sociological traditions, between those using different methodological approaches to study similar social phenomena, and between those using similar approaches to study vastly different phenomena.

We follow in the tradition of previous IISS hosts in inviting graduate students to submit abstracts for the one-day symposium, to be held on March 29, 2008. Suggested areas include strengths of the department, which will enable professors to act as discussants on a number of panels:

  • Criminology
  • Cultural Sociology
  • Demography
  • Economic Sociology
  • Family
  • Historical Sociology
  • Immigration
  • Inequality
  • Medical Sociology
  • Organizations
  • Political Sociology
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Methods
  • Race and Ethnicity
  • Religion
  • Social Theory
  • Urban Sociology

Graduate students studying other substantive topics are also encouraged to submit. In addition, we especially encourage scholars using new and innovative methodologies to submit abstracts.

The IISS 2008 Program Committee will accept abstracts no longer than 250 words through Friday, February 1, 2008. Submit abstracts to iiss2008@princeton.edu. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the same email address.
