EGLISE ST. JEAN DE MALTE

a rain,
pronounced,
falling.
Though far from the ocean,
this is a town
that cherishes water,
keeps recordings of rain
in fountains:
les quatres dauphines,
la place albertas.
I have seen men wash
their hair,
women scooping
with their hands to drink,
these humble altars
where one can bow
and cleanse.
you have to admire
the sunflower and field of hay
for their resilience,
the way they resist
tarnish and fade.
