- Carlos Eire Lecture “Ambushed by a Memoir: Confessions of a Wayward Historian” Professor Carlos Eire of Yale University will be coming to speak on his bestselling novel, Waiting for Snow in Havana (2003 National Book Award Winner). The book details Eire’s childhood growing up in Cuba at the time of the revolution. At times criticized as overly nostalgic, Eire will comment on the novel, as well as his views of Cuban politics and the use of fiction to narrate historical events. Eire is a History professor at Yale University and this is his first novel. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Program in Latin American Studies, the History Department and the Program in Creative Writing.

- John Williamson will be speaking about his role in coining “the Washington Consensus”. His lecture will address the implications of neo-liberal economic policy in modern day Latin America. He will be joined by a panel of Princeton professors who will provide a deeper investigation of the movement.
