Status of items from Lawrence Committee meeting – August 4th

1.      Plumbing issues in low rise – need strainers in sinks and bathtubs.  Told Committee to advise each student who needs a strainer to use either 8-8000 to report the need or use the on-line service request or to send an email to service@princeton.edu.  Continued discussion relating to all maintenance requests for tenants should be directed to the Facilities Customer Service Center.  What needs to get back to super will get there.

2.      New Laundry problems include:

2.1.  Laundry temperature in room is too hot.  Laundry Room is not air conditioned.  Room is piped correctly.  During hot summer days, room will be hot.

2.2.  Machines taking too long to dry.  Machines in this laundry are top of the line.  Maybe problem is in programming.  Will refer this to Mac Gray for a service call to ensure machines are working as they should. Will report back with results.

3.      Building 12 elevator problem.  Elevator is shutting down during peak hours.  I explained that this is a safety feature and agreed to post signs. Temporary signs were to be posted on 8/6 with permanent ones being on order.

4.      Shuttle stop relocation.  This should be complete this week if all goes according to plan.

5.      Building 10- blinds missing.  The installation is almost through.  We need a final call out to all residents and to complete this task so we know we have everybody covered.

6.      Address problems with newspaper deliveries.  All “mailers” should draw the new addresses from the central depository.  Tenants should contact their providers with an address changes.  Superintendent should be on the lookout for unwanted deliveries and should pick up aged newspapers that are not addresses to current occupants.

7.      Packages left unattended.  Letter to Mr. Daval is drafted and awaiting approval.  Katie was kind to research the USPS manual for ops.

8.      Mailboxes for outgoing mail.  When we meet with Mr. Davall, we can address this.

9.      More bike racks.  After we get the ribbon racks relocated from in front of apartment windows and we clean up the other covered bike shed, we should look at the need again.  If the need exists we will request Major Maintenance.  Lawrence residents are the only ones who have a covered bike shed.

10. Repairs for unsecured carpeting are to be submitted by the occupants directly to the Customer Service Center as a work request.

11. Plumbing issues in New Lawrence are also to be submitted as work requests.

12. Shower heads are too low for most people and need some adjusting effort.  Carolyn Mordas volunteered to have some temporary bracket installed in an effort to fix what is sure to be a large “source of complaining” for more tenants.  This effort will be started on or about September 13th after the large move in occurs across campus.

13. Missing toilet seats.  Mark Kirby in an earlier conversation relayed that these will be changed out to a more “residential” item.  Will confirm with Mr. Kirby via email and relay schedule.

14. Air conditioners not working in New Lawrence.  Tenants should submit work requests directly to the Customer Service Center.

15. New Lawrence doors need props or automatic opener.  Cannot prop doors open. Issue is that doors are heavy and quite a strain to get in and out of with hands full of groceries or shopping bags.  Housing can ask via work order to have the closure adjusted to allow the opened door to closer more slowly so the person entering the building via the opened door can get in without fear of a large door closing on him/her.

16. Request for TV antennas.  Tenants want another option other than Patriot Cable.  Patty will explore this option.  Further discussion involved what cable service, if any, should go to the Community Room.  Patty to discuss with Tom for direction.  All information should be gathered by end of August.

17. New Lawrence paper recycling bins at mailboxes.   Bins were received in Housing and given to Milton for distribution.  They should be in place by now.

18. New Lawrence apartment doors shut automatically.   This practice meets code.  If tenants feel the doors shut too quickly or take too long, they are to put a service request in.

19. Bad laundry room ventilation.   Investigation by the trouble shooter revealed that the laundry room is properly ventilated.  Lack of air conditioning will make this room somewhat uncomfortable in the hottest days of summer.

20. Electrical outlets that don’t work or are physically loose.  Tenants should report this directly to the Customer Service Desk.

21. No location for carts and more carts requested.  Building and site plans did not address this issue.  Trying to resolve placement.  Thinking we might put Rubbermaid shed for carts on two extreme sides (next to Building 14 and next to Building 10).  Mark will be ordering 4 extra carts to help with expanded population.

22. Photocopier in Computer Cluster.  Not a Housing issue and committee will handle.

23. Another topic discussed was the need for a larger Community Room.  The New Lawrence Community Room can only accommodate 33 people under the Fire Marshall’s plan.  The old Community Room can handle less.  After renovations, there will be approximately 380 apartments housing nearly 500 residents.  The general consensus is that a community room that is supporting 500 residents is woefully inadequate and should be addressed.  Committee would like to entertain converting part of the first floor to community room space.
