March 1996

Special Events

"Being Out in the Academy" a dinner with Prof. Michael Cadden, (Director of the Program in Theater and Dance) Tuesday, March 26 at the Grad College Breakfast Room from 6 to 7:30 pm. An informal discussion of being LGB at Princeton and beyond. Call Jen Handler at 8-1353 if you need a meal pass.

Martin Sherman's Bent will be performed Thursday-Sunday, March 28-31 and Thursday-Saturday, April 4-6 at 8 pm at Theatre Intime. Set in Nazi Germany, Bent is the story of Max's struggle to face his sexuality in the midst of societal scorn and painful persecution. It highlights the troubling and often disregarded parallels between our own society and the Nazi regime, and forces us to examine how far we've actually come in terms of personal, sexual, and emotional liberation. There will be a special performance co-sponsored by the CJL and LGBA on Sunday, March 31 with a special discussion immediately following the performance.

More Theater: "Long Time Since Yesterday", a play that deals with a lesbian relationship in the African American community will be performed at the Black Box at Wilson College from March 28 to 31.

Community Meeting, Wednesday, March 27, 10 pm, Murray-Dodge West Room. Come and reflect about recent developments within the queer community, and get psyched for Pride 1996 (which comes not a moment too soon!). Refreshments served. All welcome!

A Joint Peer Education Conference will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 10 am-3 pm at Robertson Hall. All returning LGBA peer educators should plan on attending, as should those interested in becoming peer educators next year. Please RSVP to Jen <8-1353; handler@ariel>, and include your social security number if you have a university meal contract. [cont.]

On Friday, April 5, LGBA will be organizing a trip with the Center for Jewish Life (CJL) to Beth Simchat Torah, which hosts the world's largest gay and lesbian synagogue. Transportation for the round-trip fare shall be provided, as will accommodations (through members of BST) for those not wanting to travel on Shabbat or who merely want to have a fun weekend in New York City. All interested should contact Moshe Levy (8-8681) or Jen Handler <handler@ariel; 8-1353>.
