Michael Cook
Class of 1943 University Professor of Near Eastern Studies
Princeton University

Michael Cook is the 1943 University Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University.  He was educated at Cambridge, spending two years there studying English and European history, and two learning Turkish and Persian, then continued his studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies in the University of London, where he researched Ottoman population history in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Prior to his appointment at Princeton in 1986, Cook taught and researched Islamic history at the School of Oriental and African Studies.
