Philippe Cothier

Philippe
Cothier started his career as a Research Assistant at MIT’s
Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems. Specializing
in systems architecture for C3I (Command, Control, Communication & Intelligence),
he graduated (MSc) from MIT in 1984 and subsequently went on to work
for the French Ministry of Defense as the Programme Manager for the
development of all Air Force mission planning systems. In 1987
he became the Special Advisor for nuclear matters to the Under Secretary
of Defense for Policy, a position he left with the rank of Colonel
in the French Military Engineers Corp. In 1989 Cothier joined
the MATRA group as Corporate Director of the Strategy & Development
Department. He was then appointed CEO of MATRA CAP Systems,
a leader in France for C3I systems, the n°1 European player for
space imaging systems, and a key partner of the US Air Force as prime
contractor of the Eagle Vision program. In 1997 he became
Senior Vice President (Systems) of MATRA Defense & Space. In
2001 Cothier set up his own independent practice and has since been
advising large European industrial and high tech groups: M&A
deal-making; restructuring of aeronautical ventures; business build-up
/ divestment (IT field); international industrial deployment. The
scope of his activity also extends to venture capital investment
funds. A dual National (French / British), Mr. Cothier is a member
of UK’s Royal United Services Institute for Defence & Security
Studies. He holds a graduate degree from Ecole Polytechnique
and an MBA from INSEAD.
