David Dobkin
Professor, Computer Science Department
Dean of the Faculty
Princeton University
David Dobkin is a faculty member in the department of Computer Science at Princeton University and is currently Dean of the Faculty. He received B.S. degrees from MIT in 1970,
an M.S. in 1971,
and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics in 1973 from Harvard
University. He taught at Yale
University and the University
of Arizona before joining Princeton University’s Computer
Science Department in 1981. He was a recipient of a Guggenheim
Fellowship in 1988-1989.
Professor Dobkin’s work focuses on the interface
between computational geometry and computer
graphics. His interests include the development of
theoretical models and algorithms for problems of computer
graphics and other fields which are geometric in nature. He
is also involved in the implementation
of geometric algorithms and the development of tools to
make the development and animation of such algorithms easier.
Professor Dobkin is on the editorial boards of numerous journals
including: ACM
Transactions on Graphics, ACM
Transactions on Mathematical Software, Algorithmica, Computational
Geometry: Theory and Applications, Discrete
and Computational Geometry, IEEE
Computational Science and Engineering, International
Journal of Computational Geometry, and International
Journal of Parallel Programming. He has also been a
consultant or visitor at various research labs including Bellcore,
Bell Labs, ATT Research XEROX
PARC, and DEC
SRC and is involved with the NSF Science and Technology Centers,
DIMACS where he was a member of the Executive Council and the
Geometry Center where he chaired the Board of Governors.
