Policy Brief on Afghanistan and the Region

LISD has released a policy report, "Toward a Sovereign Afghanistan," which summarizes recommendations from the recently convened LISD Colloquium on International Affairs, held October 20-22, 2011, in the Cecilienhof Castle of Potsdam near Berlin, Germany. More than 40 leading experts from Afghanistan and 14 other states participated in the off-the-record conference.

The policy brief addresses four key issues relevant to the immediate and near future of Afghanistan: governance and economy, culture and identity, negotiations and reintegration, and the region and macro-region.

The colloquium was funded in part by grants from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Promotor Stiftung/Kaiser Partner, Vaduz, Peter Kellogg, Prince Hans Adam II, and Siemens, with additional support from the governments of Germany and Liechtenstein.
