Review Conference on Afganistan
Bonn/Petersberg, Germany
4-7 September 2008
The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination convened a review conference on Afghanistan on September 4-7, 2008 in Bonn/Petersberg, Germany. This colloquium was part of the broader LISD research project on Afghanistan and the region, and the tenth in a series of LISD-sponsored conferences focusing on Afghanistan since October 2001. The conference was funded in part by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
This event brought together senior policymakers, academics, governmental representatives, and representatives of the public and private sectors, key states, institutions and non-governmental organizations active in Afghanistan and the region. The content of the colloquium focused on Afghanistan’s ongoing state-, security- and economy-building efforts from domestic and regional perspectives. Conference sessions followed a special seminar structure focusing on seven specific issue-areas: security; good governance; law and order; elections; economics, agriculture, energy and infrastructure; education, culture and identity; and relationships in the region between Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran and Pakistan.
Conference participation was by invitation only.
