The Future of the International Criminal Court
25-27 May 2006
Salzburg, Austria

The international conference, “The Future of the International Criminal Court” was held in Salzburg, Austria, May 25-27, 2006.  The conference was organized by the Austrian EU-Presidency in cooperation with the Salzburg Law School on International Criminal Law, Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law.  LISD Director, Wolfgang Danspeckgruber, spoke at the meeting on the role of academia for the future of the ICC, and LISD prepared and produced the conference’s final report.

Conference participants included Philippe Kirsch, ICC President, and Luis Moreno-Ocampo, ICC Prosecutor General, as well as well as governmental representatives, other ICC officials, and representatives of NGOs and academia.  Sessions focused on pressing challenges in the near-term for the ICC, the Rome Statute in practice, and future longer-term issues for the court and the Assembly of States Parties.
