Iran, the West, and the Region

LISD sponsored the private, off-the-record conference, “Iran, the West and the Region” on March 11-12, 2007 at Princeton University. Conference sessions focused on developing policy and other options to avoid military a military confrontation with Iran, to reduce tensions resulting from Iran’s nuclear program and its connections to the Iraq war, to evaluate and anticipate the role of Iran in the broader region, and to facilitate international cooperation on Iran. The conference brought together academics, regional and nuclear policy experts, and diplomats from the U.S., EU, and UN.
A public roundtable discussion, “Iran: A Looming Crisis with Possible Solutions,” was held on Monday, March 12 with Ali Ansari, Director, Institute for Iranian Studies, and Reader, School for Modern History, University of St. Andrews, Scotland; Wolfgang Danspeckgruber, Director, Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination; James Gow, Co-Director, International Peace and Security Programme, and Professor of Peace and International of Security, Kings College, London; Gabrielle Rifkind, Human Security Analyst, Oxford Research Group; and Sir John Thomson, former UK Permanent Representative to the UN.
