The Varied Thrush was seen off and on Saturday between 7:10 AM and at least 3 PM (many observers). It was seen Sunday briefly around noon (only one report received).
Directions: From Rt. 40 just east of Buena in Atlantic Co., take Oak Road south to number 4040. Stay in the driveway to view the feeder at the edge of the woods. Be quiet to avoid spooking the Thrush.
Greater White-fronted Geese:
There are two Greater White-fronted Geese in Moorestown, Burligton County. One was seen earlier this week - today (Feb. 5) I saw two together in a flock of Canada Geese.
Directions: Get to the intersection of Rt. 38 & Hartford Rd in Mt. Laurel. Take Hartford Rd west towards Moorestown. At the first light turn left on to Rt. 537 (Marne Highway). Rt. 537 will go under Rt. 295 & the NJ Turnpike and then bend sharply to the right. Immediately on the right just after the bend, there is a farm field. The two White-fronted Geese were in this field in a large flock of Canada Geese (also 4 Snow Geese including one "Blue" Goose). This field is at the intersection of Rt. 537, Centerton Rd, & Westfield Rd (traffic light). Most maps won't show this intersection correctly as it was recently reconstructed and realligned. There were several other large flocks of geese in nearby farm fields - it's quite possible that the birds might move around and be at other locations nearby. (Tom Bailey)
Another White-fronted Goose was with Canada Geese today (Sunday) in Boonton, Morris Co. From Rt. 287, exit on Main St., Boonton. go west on Main St. Where it splits, take North Main not West Main. Just before Powerville Rd. intersection there is open water on the Rockaway River where the geese congregate. (fide Mike Anderson, Sherman-Hoffman Sanctuary)
Razorbills: Three Razorbills were at Manasquan inlet on Saturday (Evan Obercian).
