Thayer's Gulls, 19 Feb 2000

The good collection of birders at Florence on Thursday could NOT turn up either the possible Yellow-legged Gull nor any of the previously reported Thayer's Gulls. "Best" gulls were the expected Glaucous (2+), Iceland (7+), and Lesser Black-backed (25+). A check of the fields near Moorestown produced the large flock of Canada Geese but no Greater White-fronted.

The good gull news is that the first-winter Thayer's Gull along Ocean Drive near Cape May was seen again on Friday afternoon. This bird seems to be quite sporadic and undependable, however, as it is found only every two or three days. Chances of finding it seem to be a bit better if the weather is overcast, although that is not a requirement. See earlier postings about private property and parking considerations there.
