Scissor-tailed and Mississippi Kites, 11 May 2000

Date: Thu, 11 May 2000
From: Shawneen Finnegan/Paul Lehman
Subject: more kites

Well, there were also more kite sightings in Cape May today (Thurs) with the NW winds, to go with the earlier Swallow-tailed on Monday, and the Swallow-tailed(s) in Queens and at Sandy Hook. A Swallow-tailed was reported this morning already at 7 AM by unknown folks near the Cape May bridge over the canal. We spent many hours looking for it to no avail. Then this afternoon I had a Mississippi Kite over the Beanery, finally the first one here this spring. Other minor highlights locally include a few small flocks of Red Crossbills, Wilson's Phalarope, and Long-billed Dowitcher.
