Black-necked Stilt, Brigantine, 6/10/00

Susan Phelon reports:

At Brigantine last evening [Friday, June 10] Bob Henschel and I found a Black-necked Stilt while leading the Owl Haven Van trip. We arrived around 5:45 pm and I heard a Stilt calling near the Gull Pond Tower. We did not see it until about a half hour later when we were about at F-6, half way to the Peregrine tower. The bird was five feet from the road on the left. By the way there were four Peregrines on the tower. We also saw two young Barn Owls in the box and saw and heard Chucks and Whips. A great trip with 72 species but very few shorebirds. We had at most a dozen Semi-palmated Sandpipers, one Semi-palmated Plover, no Dowitchers, no Dunlin, no Turnstones. We did have lots of Skimmers and one Oystercatcher.
