There is a "Great White" Heron, the white morph of the Great Blue Heron, present on Nummy's Island near Stone Harbor. It was found yesterday afternoon by David Wilcove and others from Washington DC and seen again this morning by Richard Crossley and myself between 9 AM-10AM. Today it was on the west or inland side of the island about half way down the island. It was several hundred yards away, but right next to a normal Great Blue Heron for good comparison. Yesterday afternoon it was (1:30-2:00 PM) on the west side of the island but closer to the northern end (free bridge side).
Legs are very pale yellowish, the bill has a dusky culmen, but otherwise a pale yellowish-green to orange bill (depending on the light) and small dark lores. Otherwise it is all white. Perhaps because it is white it sometimes looked even bigger and thicker necked than the regular Great Blue.
