Chip Krilowicz took photos of the three cranes (Common, Sandhill, and juvenile) at the "usual" spot on Harmony Road this morning. Later in the morning, Al Pochek also photographed them at a slightly different location. He says:
Today Sep.19th at 10:30am my wife & I spotted three cranes flying East over the area of Columbia & JohnDare Rds. We lost site of them in the area of a pond on Seeley Rd (Rt. #612). At 11:00am we relocated the three birds in a field on the North side of Harmony Rd across from house #560 and to the West of Cake Rd. The three consisted of one immature crane, one adult sandhill, and one adult common crane.
The birds flew off and we located them at 11:20am in a cornfield on the South-West corner of Walters Rd & Seeley-Cohansey Rd. just before house #140.
Johnson Sod farm was void of birds. It appears that the fields have been replowed and are now smooth. The last time I visited (9/11) the plowed fields were very rough and the plovers were hunkered down in the crevices. Apparently their "Sheltered" area is gone and so are they. There has been no further report of the Golden Plover at Sandy Hook. Thanks, AL and Chip!!
